One of the most downloaded quilt patterns I designed for BOMquilts.com were the “Baby Loves Poetry” quilts. As I was searching through my photos, I came across the photos of the quilts that I made that inspired these patterns. The quilts were gifted to two of my cousin’s children, all four of whom have a quilt from ‘Aunt Tammy’ with a heart as the focal point. Goodness, these “Baby Loves Poetry” quilts sure did turn out great, if I do say so myself!
Since the Planet Patchwork web store is no longer in business, I cannot show a link to this quilt that I made for my nephew when he graduated from high school. I can tell you, however, that it took me a couple of years to finally get it quilted and bound and sent to him! It was a very simple block of the month quilt that helped me work on perfecting things like half-square triangles and such. But it is a joy to look at, if I do say so myself!*
*Don’t worry about the lines – I took this photo while the quilt was held against a wooden fence.
This was the first I’d heard of a block of the month (BOM) quilt, and I embraced it with everything I had. I never realized how fun making a single quilt block a month was, and then to have all of the blocks finished and just needing to be put them together after 12 months – I was hooked.
So hooked that I made this BOM quilt for myself:
And another one for a dear friend:
I designed my first BOM quilt in 2006. That also shows how hooked I was on this process! If you are looking for one or six BOM quilt projects, check out my designs at BOMquilts.com!
